Born and raised in Los Angeles, I’ve always been stimulated by the idea of clothing being a true form of self expression. Since I was little, I loved dressing my friends up after school, style them in ways I thought were eccentric and individual. Collecting vintage became an immense hobby of mine, so I had lots of fun garments to play around with. I’d thrift a garment, and immediately style it to my liking, find a location, and photograph it. Teaching myself different crafts, like crocheting, I’d get lost in it for hours. Anything intricate I could make with my hands was purely meditative to me. After running a successful crochet clothing business for four years, I then wanted to dive deep and gain a better understanding of garment construction. After studying fashion merchandising, fashion design and fashion styling, I presented my first collection during LA Fashion Week, October 2019. Shortly after, I decided to start my own line of clothing named Taryn Cossette. My designs are influenced by 18th century romanticism and the rawness of the vast desert life of the Wild West, as captured by television and cinema. The desire to emulate those timeless worlds allowed me to create a style that intertwines both fantasies. Considering myself an old soul at heart, I yearn to bring back old fashioned values in my work. Spontaneous, sincere, and empowering, my aesthetic spawns from the poetic forms of nostalgia and is a pure reflection of my creative spirit.
